Somali Welsh identity

Go to #BBC I player and look for Radio 4 Monday 15th April at 1100 Journeys Down My Street – Home Away From Home – The Somalis of Bute Street, Cardiff. It is a brilliant programme about the Cardiff Somali community and how they share their Welsh and Somaliland identities. You can hear young people, like Abdi in The Reluctant Pirate, who have a foot in both cultures. In Somaliland they call Welsh Somalis “Fishandchips”, because that is what they think Welsh people live on. And you can hear a young bride who came to Wales from Djibouti. She loves the rain. They want you to listen to it to understand that Somalia is not all about #piracy.
